Previous names: The name “Villa Concordia” has been retained since the hotel opened.
Architecture: Villa Concordia is a fine example of seaside resort architecture (circa 1880 to 1914). The house is a functional, box-shaped plaster building in white with typical wooden porches decorated with floral patterns. The corner tower, a romantic architectural element, significantly enhances the appearance of the building. The architecture of the house conveys cheerfulness and lightheartedness and, in summer, a southern flair.
Year of construction: Probably around 1900
History/owners until 1945: The villa was first listed in the Binz guide’s apartment directory in 1901: Villa Concordia, owner Mrs. Joh. Utz, 20 rooms, 3 cooking facilities. This continued in the following years, according to the 1909 Binz Guide: … Villa Concordia, owner Mrs. Johanna Utz, Lottumstr. Quiet location in the immediate vicinity of the beach and pine forest, opposite the baths, recommends its well-appointed and contemporary rooms with verandas and sea views, as well as apartments with kitchens at contemporary prices.
From 1920 onwards, a Mrs. L. Prawdzick was named as the owner. This changed at the end of the 1920s. Captain Max Gips became the new owner, and then Miss Lotte Modrow in the mid-1930s.
GDR era: In the accommodation directory “Ostseebad Binz Insel Rügen” from the summer of 1950, the house was listed as follows: Fremdenheim Concordia, owner Modrow, Wilhelm-Pieck-Straße, 8 beds. The Villa Concordia was later used as a residential building.
After 1990: After 1990, Herta Modrow applied for restitution and got the villa back. She sold the house in 1994. The new owners renovated the villa from 1996 to 1998 and rebuilt the courtyard building as “Haus Concordia.” Since then, vacation homes and apartments have been available in the villa.
Current use: Vacation homes and apartments
