    Hotel Deutsche Flagge

    Previous names: Villa Veritas

    Today: Hotel Deutsche Flagge

    Year built: Probably around 1905

History/owners until 1945: In 1905, teacher Töpke had Villa Veritas built on the property at Margaretenstraße 4. The house was listed in the housing register for the first time that year: owner teacher Töpke, 24 rooms and 2 kitchens. In the following years, both the owners and the street names changed frequently. Margaretenstraße 4 first became No. 5, then No. 6, and by 1927, No. 7. From 1928, the address was Astastraße 12, and after 1945, Schillerstraße 9. In 1921, the house was given its current name, “Deutsche Flagge” (German Flag), which was recorded in the housing register as “Deutsche Flagge,” owner Mrs. Gen. Oberarzt Fricke, 30 rooms and 3 kitchens. In the following years, the name remained the same, but the owners changed. In the 1928 Binz guide, an advertisement stated:

Deutsche Flagge, prestigious quiet house, 1 minute from the beach and the pier, well-appointed and comfortable guesthouse …, owner Richard Mann, who was already named as the owner in 1926 (and was formerly the long-time owner of the “Lorelei” guesthouse in Sellin on Rügen). From 1931 onwards, the Binz guide listed Wilhelm Dahms as the owner of the Deutsche Flagge family guesthouse.

GDR era: In 1956, the heirs sold the house to the Willy Mehlberg family, the parents of the current owner. During the GDR era, it was used as a residential building and as the Binzer Heimatstube (museum), among other things.

After 1990: In 1991, the Lothar Mehlberg family took over the house. Between 1992 and 1995, renovation work was carried out during the winter months, with the balconies being rebuilt according to old designs. In the 1992 room catalog of the FVV Binz e.V., the advertisement read: Pension “Deutsche Flagge” in the old town center of Binz, only 2 minutes from the beach. Owner: Lothar Mehlberg, rooms with shower, toilet, TV, and telephone. The hotel opened in 1995.

Current use: Family-run hotel with its own restaurant
