Villa Oestereich
Villa Oestereich
Ostseebad BinzPutbuser Straße 19
Former house names: Villa Oesterreich, House at the Park
Architecture: On the property, a renovated old house and a new building stand side by side. The old building is an example of the simple construction of the time, a plastered brick building in the typical box form, only enhanced by the porches of the entrance façade. Such houses, of which there are many in Binz, were typical of the “spa architecture”.
Built in: 1899
History/owner until 1945: Villa Oesterreich was first mentioned in a list of apartments in Müller’s Rügenführer from 1900. In 1902, Villa Oesterreich was listed in the Binz apartment directory with: owned by Oesterreich, 18 rooms and 3 kitchens. The house always belonged to the Oesterreich family, who described it in an advertisement from 1931 as follows: Located near the spa gardens, opposite the beech grove, 3 minutes from the beach. Quiet house in a sunny location. Comfortably furnished. Rooms with breakfast. Larger, stately kitchen apartments. Owned by the Oesterreich siblings.
GDR period: After the expropriation in 1953, the house was assigned to the municipality and occupied by long-term tenants.
After 1990: After the fall of the Wall, the house was returned to the Oesterreich family, who sold it to Mr. Holger Meyn in 1993. In 1997, after extensive renovation, the villa, now renamed “Haus am Park”, was reopened. A year later, a new building was added as “Haus am Park II”.
In 2018, “Haus am Park I and II” were sold. The new owners renovated both houses and gave Villa Oestereich back its name.
