Former names: Villa Lissek
Today: Strandhotel Binz
Architecture: From the book “Bäderarchitektur” (Seaside Resort Architecture) by Wilhelm Hüls & Ulf Böttcher: “The façade … is impressively structured. Sloping walls between the central section and the sides break it up. Wide cornices stand out even more strongly and emphasize the horizontal lines. The solidly built loggias were probably originally open. The elaborate roof with tower and dormers can be clearly seen from the beach. In keeping with the baroque tower dome, the architect placed the oval window in the attic on the long side and playfully distorted it.”
Year opened: 1911
History/owners until 1945: Albert Lissek opened his hotel in 1911. An advertisement from 1912 read: “First-class hotel furnished with all modern comforts. Located directly on the beach, 6th house to the right of the spa hotel, opposite the ladies’ bathing area. Electricity. Light in all rooms. 27 rooms, 3 kitchens.“ Advertising of this kind can be traced back to 1939.
GDR era: During the GDR era, the premises were used as rental apartments.
After 1990: In 1994, the new owners – Mr. Preussker and the Nielsen brothers – had the house reconstructed. The ”Fischmarkt” restaurant was set up in the basement. It reopened as a hotel in 1995.
Current use: Hotel with fish restaurant
Interesting facts/anecdotes: High above sea level, you can enjoy a sauna. There is a Finnish sauna in the onion dome of the building.
