Villa Getreuer Eckart

Ostseebad Binz
Jasmunder Straße 3

Former house names: The house name “Getreuer Eckart” has been retained from the opening until today.

Year of construction: 1904/05

History/Owners until 1945: In 1904, Miss Frieda Jahn applied for a building permit to construct a residential and commercial building on Jasmunder Straße. It was named “Getreuer Eckart”. It was already listed in the 1905 Binz guide: Villa Getreuer Eckart (owner Jahn) with 18 rooms and 1 kitchen.

Four years later (in the Binz guide from 1909), Frieda Jahn advertised her lodging house as follows: Villa “Getreuer Eckart”, apartments with kitchen, also single rooms, each with a veranda. Full board available at moderate prices. Lodging for tourists. Owner: Miss F. Jahn

In the following years, Miss Jahn continued to be the owner, as can be seen in the apartment directories until 1928. From 1930, the villa remained in the family. However, the owner’s name was Johanna Jahn. It can be assumed that she was the sister or daughter of Frieda Jahn. From 1941 to 1945, the house was used for children as part of the Kinderlandverschickung (KLV – a program that sent urban children at risk of poor health to the countryside for recreation).

GDR period: In 1950, there was another entry in the apartment directory: owner Jahn, 4 beds. In 1953, the owners were expropriated as part of the “Aktion Rose”. During the GDR era, long-term rentals were offered.

After 1990: In the mid-1990s, the Glasner family from Hessen purchased the villa and extensively renovated it in 1997. A year later, a small, family-run bed and breakfast hotel was opened.

Current use: privately run bed and breakfast hotel

Interesting facts/anecdotes: The name of the villa, “Getreuer Eckart”, is based on a figure from fairy tales and legends. In addition to a poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the figure also appears in the two-part story “Der getreue Eckart und der Tannenhäuser” by the romantic Ludwig Tieck (published in 1799 in Romantische Dichtungen and in 1812 in Phantasus).
