    Villa Getreuer Eckart

Previous names: The name “Getreuer Eckart” has been retained since the establishment opened.

    Year of construction: 1904/05

History/owners until 1945: In 1904, Miss Frieda Jahn applied for permission to build a residential and commercial building on Jasmunder Straße. It was given the name “Getreuer Eckart.” It was already listed in the 1905 Binz guidebook under “Accommodations”: Villa Getreuer Eckart (owner Jahn) with 18 rooms and 1 kitchen.

Four years later (in the 1909 Binz guide), Frieda Jahn advertised her lodging house as follows: Villa “Getreuer Eckart,” apartments with kitchen, also individual rooms, each with veranda. Full board available on request at reasonable prices. Lodging for tourists. Owner: Miss F. Jahn

In the following years, Miss Jahn remained the owner, as can be seen in the apartment directories until 1928. From 1930 onwards, the villa remained in family ownership. However, the owner was now Johanna Jahn. It can be assumed that she was Frieda Jahn’s sister or daughter. From 1941 to 1945, the house was used for children as part of the Kinderlandverschickung program (addendum: KLV – city children at risk of health problems were sent to the countryside for recuperation).

GDR period: In 1950, there was another entry in the housing register: Owner Jahn, 4 beds. In 1953, the owners were expropriated as part of the “Aktion Rose” (Operation Rose). During the GDR era, the property was rented out on a long-term basis.

After 1990: In the mid-1990s, the Glasner family from Hesse purchased the villa and extensively renovated it in 1997. A year later, a small, family-run bed and breakfast hotel was opened.

Current use: Privately run bed and breakfast hotel

Interesting facts/anecdotes: The villa’s name, “Getreuer Eckart,” is based on a character from fairy tales and legends. In addition to a poem by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the character also appears in the two-part story “Der getreue Eckart und der Tannenhäuser” by the Romantic writer Ludwig Tieck (published in 1799 in Romantische Dichtungen and in 1812 in Phantasus).
