The main design feature of Villa Carita is the loggias facing the sunny side with their beautifully curved arches. Year of construction: 1905
History/owners until 1945: Villa Carita was first mentioned in the 1906 housing register as follows: Astastr. 2, Villa Carita, owner F. Binz, 19 rooms, 2 kitchens. Three years later, an advertisement in the Binz Guide (1909) read as follows: Villa Carita. Astastraße 2. Owner: Fritz Binz. Located directly at the spa, in close proximity to the beach, the landing stage, and the baths, it offers 20 well-appointed rooms with verandas in every price range, as well as apartments with kitchens. The Fritz Binz family continued to be listed as the owners in the following years until the 1930s. It is not known whether there was a change after that.
GDR era: After the Second World War, Villa Carita was converted into a residential building. The renovations at that time were minimal, which meant that much of the original structure could be preserved. During the GDR era, Astastraße was renamed Schillerstraße.
After 1990: In the book “Country Houses & Villas by the Sea on Rügen & Hiddensee” (by Barbara Finke & Beatrice Pippia), the period after 1990 is described as follows: Starting in 1999, the Nordmann Group renovated the building and put it to new use. The ground floor houses a restaurant, initially the “Zum Alten Fritz” inn, now the Dolden Mädel Braugasthaus.
Current use: Restaurant, vacation homes and apartments
Interesting facts/anecdotes: In addition to renting out rooms, Fritz Binz was already focusing on a second source of income at that time, according to an excerpt from the book “Landhäuser & Villen am Meer Rügen & Hiddensee” (by Barbara Finke & Beatrice Pippia): … Invoices from the 1920s show that a family named Binz, who ran a workshop and car dealership on the farm next to the spa hotel, were the owners. …
