    Strandhalle

    Previous names: None

Architecture: The Strandhalle was a wooden extension in the Scandinavian hall style at the Hotel Seeschloss. Barbara Finke describes the Strandhalle in her book “Landhäuser & Villen am Meer” (Country Houses & Villas by the Sea) as follows: “The building follows the tradition of wooden hall constructions, which were often used as dining or dance halls. Especially when viewed from a distance, the building looks like a small chapel with windows extending up to the gable and wooden decorations on the roof ridge. Inside, the hall has a beautiful visible wooden structure with ornate struts.”

    Year opened: Around 1893

History/owners until 1945: In 1893, Wilhelm Klünder opened his hotel “Seeschloss.” It had an extension that was used as a dining room and is now called the “Strandhalle.” In addition to its gastronomic use during the season, the extension also served as winter storage for the beach chairs.

In 1942, the hotel “Seeschloss” and the Strandhalle became the property of Albert Härtelt.

GDR period: In 1950, the building next to the Strandhalle, the “Seeschloss,” was used as the first FDGB vacation home. In 1953, Albert Härtelt and his family suffered the fate of many others. They were expelled as part of Operation Rose. During the GDR period, the Strandhalle generally served as a catering facility for the surrounding FDGB vacation homes.

After 1990: After 1990, the property was transferred back to Albert Härtelt. He in turn handed it over to his daughter Doris Kaiser-Härtelt, who renovated the Strandhalle. After a careful and extensive renovation carried out with great attention to detail, Toni Münsterteicher opened the Strandhalle as a restaurant in 1997. When you visit the Strandhalle, you feel as if you have been transported back in time. The credo of the establishment is: “Fine home-style cooking, generous portions at reasonable prices.”

Current use: Restaurant serving fine home-style cooking
