    Haus Gaebel

    Previous names: The name “Gaebel” has been retained since the establishment opened.

    Year of construction: 1905

    History/owners until 1945: The establishment was first mentioned in the 1905 Binz guidebook: Pension Haus Gaebel. Accommodation with breakfast, also lunch and dinner. The builder and owner was school principal Martha Gaebel. She ran a distinguished, Christian establishment. In the 1925 Binz guidebook “Praktische Winke,” the house was described as follows: Fremdenheim Haus Gaebel, Viktoriastraße. Distinguished, Christian establishment, recommended by the German Officers’ Association. Officers’ Association. Opposite Warmbad, 1 minute from the forest and beach. Excellent food. No obligation to drink. Telephone 240. Detailed information from the owner: Mrs. Gaebel, school principal

    A year later, the spa park was created opposite the Haus Gaebel, featuring fountains, relaxation areas, and a bridge over the Aalbek stream. Later, a fountain house was added. According to the Binz guidebook “Praktische Winke” (Practical Tips), Martha Gaebel continued to run the guesthouse in 1935. After her death (date unknown), Mrs. Falcke, née Gaebel, took over the management of the house on behalf of Martha Gaebel’s heirs. Later, ownership passed to Miss Emma Noetzel.

    GDR era: After the Second World War, the building was converted into an apartment building.

    After 1990: In the mid-1990s, the Löw family from Bad Homburg (also owners of the Villa Imperial and Baltik on the beach promenade) bought the house and renovated it extensively in 1996. Today it is used as a residential building.

    Interesting facts/anecdotes: The guesthouse has always been run as a distinguished, Christian establishment. As a photo from the period shows, there was a saying on the wall of the house that read: “May God keep watch over us day and night in this house.”
